when singer Melissa Etheridge was battling cancer Republican star Michele Bachmann suggested that ..“this may be an opportunity for her to be open to some spiritual things, now that she is suffering with that physical disease. She is a lesbian.” Ms Bachmann also called being gay ‘part of Satan’ and added later “If you’re involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle, it’s bondage. It is personal bondage, personal despair and personal enslavement.”

I love political cartoons. They’re funny, sly and subversive. They question authority, draw attention to corruption and highlight social ills. A good cartoon cuts through all of the bullshit straight to the heart of an issue. The right image can be be more effective than the longest, wordiest rant. Its therefore a form that's ideally suited to our attention deficit age. They're irreverent and poke fun at our rulers, of course, but our political system is pretty much surreal comedy anyway. I don't own these images but I enjoy them. I hope you do too.
