The vice-presidential debate last night between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan was lively but didn’t deliver any knockout blows or huge gaffes on either side. Neither man won or lost big and that’s reflected in todays polls, which show a mixed but fairly evenly balanced reaction. It’s still all to play for.

I love political cartoons. They’re funny, sly and subversive. They question authority, draw attention to corruption and highlight social ills. A good cartoon cuts through all of the bullshit straight to the heart of an issue. The right image can be be more effective than the longest, wordiest rant. Its therefore a form that's ideally suited to our attention deficit age. They're irreverent and poke fun at our rulers, of course, but our political system is pretty much surreal comedy anyway. I don't own these images but I enjoy them. I hope you do too.
